25 US States Sue Trump Over New Tariffs
A group of 25 US states has sued the Trump administration. They are challenging new tariffs on foreign goods.
The tariffs range from 10% to 12.5%. They apply to goods from 60 trading partners.
The states asked a US trade court to stop the tariffs. They also want the court to declare the tariffs illegal.
The states argue the tariffs replace earlier import taxes. Those earlier taxes were struck down by the Supreme Court in February.
This is the third lawsuit this group has filed against Trump tariffs. Earlier lawsuits in 2025 challenged tariffs under a different legal method.
California's top lawyer Rob Bonta called it Trump's third illegal attempt at tariffs. The White House defended the new tariffs.
Spokesman Kush Desai said the administration used lawful power. He said it aims to stop unfair trade practices that hurt US businesses.
The tariffs were imposed under a US trade law called Section 301. Officials say they target countries that allow forced-labor imports.
