2nd French Soldier Dies After Lebanon Attack
A second French soldier has died after an attack in Lebanon. The attack hit a United Nations peacekeeper patrol on Saturday.
The patrol was clearing explosives to reopen a road near an isolated United Nations post. This happened in the village of Ghandouriyeh in southern Lebanon.
French President Emmanuel Macron said Iran-backed Hezbollah carried out the attack. But Hezbollah said it was not involved.
Lebanon's Military Tribunal opened an investigation into the attack. Both the Lebanese president and prime minister spoke out against the attack. The attack happened one day after a 10-day Israel-Lebanon ceasefire began.
Klear Note — UN peacekeepers in Lebanon monitor a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. Hezbollah is a militant group backed by Iran. France has soldiers serving as UN peacekeepers there.
