3 Iranian Soccer Players Return Despite Asylum
Seven Iranian women's soccer players sought asylum in Australia. Three of them were given asylum but chose to return to Iran.
Australia's Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke confirmed this. Four of the seven took back their asylum requests. Former player Tina Kordrostami said families of returning players face threats at home.
Klear Note — Iran's government has restricted women's sports participation for years. Asylum means a country lets someone stay for safety reasons. Returning despite asylum suggests pressure from Iran or family concerns.
