Abortion Pill Makers Ask US Supreme Court to Step In
Two companies make the abortion pill mifepristone. They asked the US Supreme Court on Saturday to pause a lower court ruling.
The ruling means patients must visit a doctor in person to get the pill. This blocks telehealth and mail-order access to mifepristone.
The companies say the ruling will cause irreparable harm. The request asks the court to pause the ruling while the case continues.
The request went to Justice Samuel Alito. He handles matters from that lower court. He can act alone or send it to the full court.
Klear Note — Mifepristone is a pill that ends early pregnancy. The US Supreme Court is the highest court in America. Lower courts sometimes make rulings that higher courts can pause or change.
