The banner claimed the Falkland Islands belong to Argentina. The islands were the subject of a 1982 war between Argentina and the UK.

The UK asked FIFA to investigate the banner. FIFA rules ban political messages at matches. England player Jude Bellingham slapped Argentina player Valentin Barco on the back of the head after the loss.
