Australia May Sue Social Media Over Child Ban
Australia may take court action against five social media platforms. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube are named.
Australia's government says the platforms allegedly broke a child safety law. Children under 16 must not use social media in Australia.
No court case has been filed yet. Nearly 70% of under-16s with accounts kept access after the ban.
A survey found 31% of children still had accounts after the ban. Before the law, 49% had accounts.
Klear Note — Australia banned social media for under-16s in 2024. The law requires platforms to block young users. This lawsuit would enforce that ban.
