Bangkok Bar Fire Kills at Least 27 People
At least 27 people died in a bar fire in Bangkok, Thailand. The fire happened in the city's Chatuchak district.
Some people ran through flames to escape the bar. Reports say many victims got trapped in restrooms with no exit.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed the death toll to local media. Sources say rescue workers reported a higher toll of 30 deaths.
Local media named the venue as Rong Beer Na Ladprao. Witnesses reportedly saw smoke near the stage before a power outage.
An explosion followed the power outage according to reports. Firefighters reportedly took about 30 to 45 minutes to control the blaze. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
