Berlin Pride Attack Leaves One Dead 29 Hurt

A man drove a minivan into a crowd near Berlin's Pride festival. The attack happened in Tiergarten park.

He then stabbed people with what appeared to be a machete. One person was killed.

29 others were injured. The van reportedly hit the crowd around 10 p.m.

It then crashed into a tree. The suspect fled on foot.

German authorities classified the attack as an Islamist terrorist attack. The main suspect is Abdul Ballout, 21 years old.

Ballout remains at large. He is linked to Berlin's Islamist scene, according to reports.

Ballout was previously convicted for planning a serious violent act. He had tried to join the terrorist group ISIL.

He received a suspended sentence of one year and 10 months. Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner both condemned the attack. Wegner called it a brutal attack on a peaceful Pride parade.
