Bitcoin and Gold Rise as US Dollar Falls
Bitcoin and gold prices rose this week. At the same time the US dollar fell in value.
This happened along with more talk about currency debasement. Debasement means a currency losing its value over time.
Bitcoin was on track for its best week in over three years. That's according to the Financial Times.
Bloomberg linked the dollar's drop to actions by US Treasury Secretary Bessent. Bessent recently arranged a bond buyback in the bond market.
The US Treasury also doubled its planned buybacks of long-term bonds. Bessent said further increases in buybacks were possible.
The dollar was set for a weekly loss over 0.8%. It was near a three-month low.
Investors see the buyback as a temporary move. But it also raised concerns about fiscal pressure. Some worry this could lead to more Treasury intervention.
