Boat Capsizes Off Libya, 53 Dead or Missing
A boat capsized in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Libya. Fifty-three people died or disappeared in the accident.
Only two survivors were rescued from the water. Two babies were among those who died or disappeared.
The UN migration agency reported the incident. At least 484 people have died or disappeared this year.
These deaths happened on the central Mediterranean route. This includes the people from this boat.
Klear Note — The central Mediterranean route is a dangerous sea crossing. Migrants use it to reach Europe from North Africa. Hundreds die or go missing there each year.
