Bolton Pleads Guilty to Keeping Classified Files
John Bolton was Trump's national security adviser. He pleaded guilty to keeping secret government files illegally.
Prosecutors say he shared over 1,000 pages of sensitive notes with his wife and daughter. He sent them by personal email and text.
Bolton originally faced 18 counts but pleaded guilty to just one. As part of his deal he will pay $2.25 million in fines.
He could also face up to five years in prison. His sentencing is set for October 28, 2026. Bolton is one of several Trump opponents charged since Trump returned to the White House.
Klear Note — Classified files contain secret government information. Keeping them illegally is a serious federal crime. Bolton held a top national security role under Trump.
