Brent Tops $105 Amid Doubts Over Ukraine Energy Ceasefire
On Sunday Trump announced a partial Ukraine energy ceasefire on Truth Social. Brent oil topped $105.
CNBC linked it to doubts about a supply boost from the ceasefire. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said Ukraine backs the ceasefire and Russia should too.
Zelenskyy called it “news to me” as Russian drones hit Kyiv, Ukraine. He said Putin “does not read Truth Social.” The Kremlin declined comment but said talks on a deal were ongoing.
Moscow had not confirmed any deal and terms remain unclear. Zelenskyy said Russia struck power plants after the Sunday announcement.
He said Russia was breaking the ceasefire as attacks continued. On Monday Zelenskyy spoke to European security officials in Warsaw, Poland.
He warned Ukraine would retaliate if Russia kept hitting its power grid. He called the ceasefire “a major step toward ending the war.” That could happen if the Americans “truly step in now.” Tensions had already risen over Ukraine's strikes on Russian oil refineries. Ukraine would halt those strikes if Russia stopped attacking its energy system.
