Broad Peak Avalanche Kills 4 Climbers Nirmal Purja Missing
An avalanche hit 10 climbers on Broad Peak in Pakistan. Mountaineer Nirmal Purja is missing after the avalanche.
Purja is a British-Nepali climber. He is a former British Special Forces member.
Four bodies have been found so far. Two of the four have been identified.
One was Nadhira Alharthy the first Omani woman to reach the top of Mount Everest. The other was Pur Bahadur Gurung a Nepali citizen.
The group of 10 also included American climber Mallory Geis and Chinese climber Wang Zhong. This is according to the Alpine Club of Pakistan.
The club said the group included five Nepali climbers and Pakistani climber Sohail Sakhi. It also included Omani climber Nadhira Alharthy Mallory Geis Wang Zhong and one unidentified foreign climber.
Rescuers kept searching on Friday despite harsh weather on the mountain. Reports say Purja's tracking device showed movement after the avalanche. His business partner Mingma Gyaby Sherpa said this raised hopes among rescuers.
