Canadian Poet Anne Carson Wins 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature
Canadian poet Anne Carson won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature on Thursday. The Swedish Academy cited her “bold and inventive oeuvre,” saying it had created new forms for contemporary literature through playful dialogue with the classical tradition.
Reuters reported that the prize is worth 12 million Swedish crowns. Carson’s work spans verse, prose, dialogue and translation, and her translations of classical Greek literature influence her writing.
She is known for genre-crossing works such as Autobiography of Red, a verse novel published in 1998, and her work blends classical and modern elements. Carson joins a list of Nobel laureates that includes Toni Morrison, Samuel Beckett and Bob Dylan.
