Capitol Police Officers Sue Trump Over $1.8 Billion Fund
Two police officers have sued President Trump over a $1.8 billion fund. The officers defended the Capitol during the January 6 2021 attack.
Harry Dunn is a former Capitol Police officer. Daniel Hodges is a current Washington DC police officer.
They say the fund could unlawfully rewards January 6 participants and Trump allies. The fund is called the Anti-Weaponization Fund.
It was created after the Justice Department settled a $10 billion lawsuit. Trump had filed that lawsuit over the leak of his tax records by a government tax worker.
The fund is meant to pay people Trump says were treated unfairly by prosecutors. The officers argue the fund breaks the 14th Amendment.
That law bars paying debts that aided an insurrection. The Treasury Department must deposit the money within 60 days.
