Congo Ebola Outbreak Becomes Country's Deadliest Ever
An Ebola outbreak in Congo is now the country's deadliest ever. It has passed the death toll from the 2018-2020 outbreak.
That earlier outbreak killed 2,299 people. Deutsche Welle and The Guardian reported at least 2,325 deaths from the current outbreak.
France 24 reported a lower total of 2,235 deaths. Congo's public health institute says confirmed cases have reached 4,945.
That includes 101 new cases found in the last day. This is Congo's 17th Ebola outbreak.
It is already the largest by number of cases. The death toll passed 2,000 in under three months.
The United Nations says one person dies from Ebola every 30 minutes there. The world's deadliest Ebola outbreak was in West Africa. It happened between 2014 and 2016.
