Cuban artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara arrived in Miami on Saturday. He was released from prison in Cuba.

The condition was that he must leave the country. A cheering crowd greeted him at the airport.

Supporters wrapped him in a Cuban flag. It read 'Patria y Vida' which means 'Homeland and Life'.

That phrase names a Grammy-winning protest song he helped create. Otero Alcántara was arrested in 2021.

This happened during Cuba's largest anti-government protests in decades. He was convicted in 2022.

He then spent five years in prison. Before his release advocates could not confirm where he was.

They filed a legal request called habeas corpus. This asks a court to explain why someone is held.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Representative Carlos Gimenez both commented on his release. Advocates said fellow artist Maykel 'Osorbo' Castillo Pérez remains imprisoned in Cuba.
