Danish PM Resigns After Election Defeat
Denmark's leader Mette Frederiksen gave her resignation to the king today. Her three-party coalition lost badly in a general election.
She is expected to stay on as caretaker leader while talks happen. She told supporters she was ready to take on the job for four more years.
She could lead a new government if talks succeed. Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen's centrist party could be key to new coalition talks.
His party could back either political side. The old government did not have enough support to carry on.
Klear Note — Denmark holds general elections every four years. The winning party or coalition forms the government. A caretaker leader runs the country during talks.
