DEA Agent Fatally Shoots Person at Memphis Motel

A DEA agent shot and killed a person at a motel in Memphis, Tennessee on Wednesday morning. Agents were serving a drug warrant when the situation escalated.

The suspect reportedly pointed a gun at agents before the agent fired. No agents were hurt.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation gave a careful account. It said only that a DEA agent fired into a room after the situation escalated.

The operation involved the DEA and the Memphis Safe Task Force. This is the second fatal shooting by the task force in four days.

The last one happened on Sunday July 6. It is the fourth death linked to the task force since it began in September.

Sources say it is the seventh use-of-force case under the initiative. President Trump created the Memphis Safe Task Force by executive order last year.
