Deadly Russian Strike Hits Buses in Ukraine's Kramatorsk

A Russian strike hit buses in Kramatorsk, Ukraine, on Thursday. The Guardian, MSNBC and Deutsche Welle reported at least 30 deaths.

But the BBC reported that officials said 33 people were killed. The attack injured at least 18 people.

A second bus was also set on fire. The Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office said a vehicle was hit at 10am.

The attack used a bomb dropped from the air. Authorities in Kramatorsk suspended public transport after the attack.

A governor said the Kremlin was “deliberately targeting civilians.” Ukraine accused Russia of targeting a crowded bus in the frontline city. Ukraine said the aim was to kill as many civilians as possible.

Kramatorsk and nearby Sloviansk are part of the Donetsk region’s “fortress belt.” The strike came as Russian attacks reportedly rose. A major Russian attack the day before mainly targeted Ukraine’s power grid.
