Death Toll From Nepal, China Floods Passes 1,000

Flooding in Nepal and China has killed more than 1,000 people. The death toll passed 1,000 on Tuesday.

Rescue teams are still searching for survivors. They are also trying to reach communities cut off by the floods.

Nepali rescuers built temporary bridges to reach remote areas. They also dug through the ruins of hydropower projects in the Himalayas.

Hundreds of workers were trapped there. Police asked relatives of missing tourists for blood samples.

They also asked for photos to help identify victims. Last week's floods destroyed a town in Nepal.

The town also lost contact with nearby communities. Rescue efforts are continuing there among the wreckage.

Klear Note — Hydropower projects use flowing water to generate electricity. The Himalayas are mountainous, making remote rescue work difficult.
Key Terms 2
