DHS Shutdown Sets New Record
A partial shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security set a record on Sunday. It became the longest such shutdown in United States history.
The shutdown lasted 44 days. The previous record was 43 days.
That earlier shutdown ran from October to mid-November 2025. The DHS is the fourth-largest agency in the United States government.
Senator Chris Van Hollen denied that Democrats are blocking DHS funding. He discussed this point with ABC host Jon Karl.
Klear Note — DHS runs border security, immigration, and disaster response. Government shutdowns stop most agency work until Congress approves funding.
