Dodik Declares Party Victory in Bosnia Election
Milorad Dodik declared victory for his party in Bosnia's election. Dodik is a pro-Russia Bosnian Serb nationalist politician.
He did not appear on the ballot. Even so he dominated the campaign.
He was barred from public office after a 2025 conviction. The election took place on October 4.
About 90% of votes had been counted. Early results showed a Dodik ally leading the race for a presidency seat.
Republika Srpska is the Serb-majority region within Bosnia and Herzegovina. Dodik said his party would hold a large majority in its assembly.
He also said he would pursue Republika Srpska's separation from Bosnia. This goal challenges the unity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Ethnic tensions have divided Bosnia since its 1992-95 war. The 1995 Dayton peace agreement set up its power-sharing system.
