Eight Skiers Dead in Lake Tahoe Avalanche

An avalanche killed eight backcountry skiers near Lake Tahoe in California on Tuesday. The avalanche happened in the Castle Peak area.

This area is in the Sierra Nevada mountains. It occurred during a severe storm.

Fifteen skiers went missing after the avalanche. Six skiers were found alive.

One skier remains missing and is presumed dead. Authorities confirmed the deaths on Wednesday.
