Eli Lilly Weight Loss Drug Shows Strong Trial Results
Drug company Eli Lilly announced results for a new weight loss drug on Thursday. The drug is called retatrutide.
People who took it lost an average of 28% of their body weight. The trial ran for 80 weeks with about 2,500 patients.
Some patients lost up to 30% of their weight — about 85 pounds. Roughly 45% of patients lost 30% or more.
The results bring Eli Lilly closer to asking for approval to sell the drug. Retatrutide works differently from other weight loss drugs already available.
Some patients had side effects like nausea and diarrhea. This was more common at the highest dose.
Klear Note — Weight loss drugs are a fast-growing market. Eli Lilly competes with other companies selling similar drugs. Trial results must be strong before the FDA approves new medicines.
