EU Pledges Funding for Greenland Amid Trump Pressure
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made an announcement Monday. She said Greenland will get $232.3 million in extra funding.
The money comes from the European Union. This funding package covers the next two years.
It comes with a new EU-Greenland partnership agreement. The funding will support climate action, internet connections, hydropower, fisheries and education.
The EU is also preparing closer political ties with Greenland. Longer-term support may rise to €530 million for 2028 to 2034.
That is up from €225 million under the current budget. Greenland is a mineral-rich Danish Arctic territory.
US President Donald Trump has demanded greater US control over Greenland. Greenland and Denmark have rejected this demand.
Klear Note — EU funding arrives while the United States seeks greater control over Greenland.
