Explosion at China Fireworks Plant Kills 26

A fireworks plant exploded in Changsha, China on Monday afternoon. At least 26 people were killed and 61 were injured.

The plant was run by Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing. President Xi Jinping called for all-out efforts to find missing persons.

He also called for swift accountability. Police detained those responsible at the company.

Nearly 500 rescue workers were sent to the site. Two nearby black powder warehouses posed ongoing explosion risks during the rescue.

Other fireworks makers in Liuyang were ordered to stop production. Liuyang is also in Hunan province.

The city makes about 60% of fireworks sold in China. It also makes about 70% of fireworks exported globally.
