Explosion Destroys Building in Athens Tourist District

An explosion brought down a building in Athens, Greece on Friday. The building was in Plaka, a tourist area near the Acropolis.

The New York Times reported at least four dead. Some people remained missing after the explosion.

Local media said US tourists and a UK national were among them. A later Reuters report said five people were still missing.

That report also said three people were injured. Rescue efforts were still continuing.

Local officials said a gas leak might have caused the blast. Athens' mayor called the explosion an "incredible disaster."
