Explosions Heard in Riyadh; Houthis Claim Missile Strike on Airport
Several explosions were heard on Thursday morning in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Their cause remained unclear.
The Houthis claimed a missile strike on Riyadh airport. Witnesses reported explosions in the city at the same time.
Blasts were also heard at the airport. The Associated Press said flights were halted.
Passengers were told to leave. Saudi Arabia had not confirmed damage or casualties from the claimed strike.
Saudi officials said Houthi attacks killed three people the day before. Those strikes hit airports in Riyadh and Abha, Saudi Arabia.
The attacks are part of a conflict with Iran-backed militants. A separate Houthi drone attack on Riyadh airport killed one person. That drone attack caused flight delays that lasted into Thursday.
Klear Note — The reported drone attack and Thursday’s claimed missile strike are separate incidents.
