Farage Quits Seat Then Plans to Run Again
Nigel Farage has quit his seat in Clacton in Essex. He won that seat in the 2024 general election.
His party Reform UK asked for a by-election on 6 August. Farage said he will run again in that vote.
He told the BBC it is "only fair" that voters judge him. A financial scandal surrounds Farage.
It involves an alleged failure to declare gifts and money he received before becoming a member of parliament in 2024. This includes a reported £5 million from a cryptocurrency investor.
The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards is looking into the matter. Labour, the Conservatives, the Lib Dems and the Greens are all boycotting the by-election.
So far the only other candidate running is comedy figure Count Binface. Reform UK has also offered to pay for the by-election. The cost could exceed £200,000.
