FBI Chief Meets White House; Times Reporters Subpoenaed
FBI Director Kash Patel spent about eight hours at the White House on Friday. His visit focused on an investigation ordered by the White House.
Soon after several New York Times reporters were subpoenaed. The reporters had written about security concerns involving Trump's Qatari-donated Air Force One.
The subpoenas followed the newspaper's reporting on the plane's security weaknesses. The journalists named are Julian E. Barnes Eric Lipton Tyler Pager and Eric Schmitt.
They were ordered to testify before a federal grand jury in Manhattan. Reports say the subpoenas came from SDNY US Attorney Jay Clayton.
SDNY stands for the Southern District of New York. The New York Times said it will fight the order. The paper called it a serious threat to press freedom.
