FBI Investigates Fatal ICE Shooting in Houston
An ICE officer shot and killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston. The shooting happened during an operation to arrest him.
ICE said he tried to run over the officer. But no evidence was immediately offered to support that claim.
The FBI is now leading the investigation. The Department of Homeland Security said Salgado Araujo was not legally allowed to be in the country.
A community group called LULAC said he was driving in Houston's Magnolia Park area looking for day laborers. LULAC said one of his sons witnessed the shooting.
LULAC also said Salgado Araujo was applying for legal status in the US. The group called for an independent investigation.
