FDA Checks Lettuce in US Cyclosporiasis Outbreak
The US Food and Drug Administration is checking iceberg lettuce as a possible outbreak source. The lettuce was supplied by Taylor Farms to Taco Bell.
Officials have not confirmed this link yet. Nearly 7000 people may have gotten sick nationwide.
So far 1645 cases have been confirmed. More than 5100 cases are still being checked.
Michigan alone has reported over 4300 cases. The true number across states may be even higher.
It may also reach beyond the four states now linked. Those states are Michigan Ohio West Virginia and Kentucky.
No deaths have been reported. 141 people have been hospitalized nationwide. Cyclosporiasis is an illness that causes diarrhea and mild fever.
