Gianni Infantino is the president of FIFA, the group that runs world football. He apologized for mistakes in his private investment plans.

This happened after a summit in Morocco. He wrote a letter to the FIFA Council and member groups.

In it he admitted errors over a failed $20bn FIFA investment plan. The plan would have created a $20bn spinoff company.

It was called FIFA Forward Enterprise. It was tied to World Cup commercial rights.

It also involved investors linked to Jared Kushner. Infantino canceled the plan after groups objected.

UEFA, the AFC and CONCACAF all opposed it. Infantino will stay on as FIFA president.

Senior executives backed him at the summit. FIFA secretary general Mattias Grafström and board members supported him publicly.

Grafström had earlier called the affair a sad and troubling series of events. UEFA has since said it has no confidence in Infantino. Some want him removed before the 2027 election.
