Five Italian Divers Die in Maldives Cave Dive

Five Italian divers died in an underwater cave in the Maldives. They were exploring the cave when they did not come back up.

The group was on a research trip to the Maldives. Four of the five were part of a team from the University of Genoa.

One diver was a marine science professor. Her daughter was also among those who died.

As of May 15 only one body had been recovered. Four victims are still believed to be inside the cave. This is thought to be the deadliest single diving accident in Maldives history.
