Glen Hansard has died at age 56. He was the lead singer of Irish band the Frames.

Hansard died after a motorcycle crash near Strawberry Beds in west Dublin, Ireland. The crash involved only his vehicle.

It happened early Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Police are investigating the crash.

His management company ATC confirmed his death. The company said his family was heartbroken by the loss.

Hansard won an Oscar in 2007 for the song 'Falling Slowly'. The song was from the film 'Once'.

He co-wrote it with Markéta Irglová. The two shared the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Hansard started the Frames in 1990. He was also an actor.

He played Outspan Foster in The Commitments in 1991. He was married to Finnish poet Maire Saaritsa and they had a young son.
