France and UK Tell Citizens to Leave Mali
France has told its citizens to leave Mali. This came after attacks on government targets over the weekend.
The attacks were launched by jihadist and Tuareg separatist groups. France said Mali's security situation is extremely dangerous.
French citizens were told to stay home until they can leave. The UK gave similar advice to its citizens in Mali.
The UK warned that those who stay do so at their own risk. Reports say this offensive is the largest in the Mali War since a 2012 rebellion.
Reports say the jihadist group and separatist group worked together for the first time. Sources say Mali's Defence Minister Sadio Camara was reportedly killed in the attacks. The separatist group also reportedly took control of the northern city of Kidal.
Klear Note — Mali is in West Africa. Jihadist groups and Tuareg separatists have fought there for years. France and UK have citizens living and working in Mali.
