France's Far-Right and Left Win First Round
France held the first round of local elections. Marine Le Pen's far-right National Rally did well.
Jean-Luc Mélenchon's radical left also did well. Both parties may grow their local power.
These elections test party strength before 2027. A final round runoff happens on 22 March. Parties may also form new alliances after this.
Klear Note — French municipal elections test party strength before 2027 presidential race. A runoff round on March 22 will determine final local control.
