France's Top Court Blocks Social Media Ban for Under-15s
France's Constitutional Council blocked a law banning social media for under-15s. The court said the ban would infringe freedom of expression.
It also said the law would violate privacy. The ban would have stopped children under 15 from using Facebook, TikTok and YouTube.
President Emmanuel Macron had supported the ban. After the ruling Macron asked Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu to rewrite the bill.
He wants a new version that follows European law. Macron vowed to pass new legislation before he leaves office next spring. Officials at the Élysée said Macron wants the reform ready before next year's presidential election.
