Gaza Flotilla Activists Report Abuse in Israeli Custody

Activists held by Israel have reported abuse during detention. They were on a ship called the Global Sumud Flotilla.

The ship had 428 passengers and was trying to bring aid to Gaza. It left Turkey before Israel stopped it.

At least 15 activists reported sexual assaults including rape. Several activists went to hospital with injuries from their time in custody.

Israel's prison service said the allegations are false. Canada's foreign minister condemned what he called appalling abuse of Canadian nationals.

Germany said some accusations were serious. Italian prosecutors are reportedly looking into possible crimes including kidnapping and sexual assault.

Klear Note Gaza is a Palestinian territory under blockade. Aid ships trying to reach Gaza are often stopped by Israel. This flotilla was attempting to deliver humanitarian supplies.
