Google Shakes Up AI Team, Shares Drop

Google announced changes to its AI teams on Wednesday. Jeff Dean is leaving the company.

Dean is Google's chief scientist and one of its first employees. He is starting a new company called Discovery Loop.

It will focus on using AI for scientific discovery. Several colleagues are joining him at the new venture.

They include Sanjay Ghemawat, Oriol Vinyals and Quoc Le. Google will reportedly invest in Discovery Loop.

Google will also provide cloud computing services to it. Demis Hassabis stepped down as CEO of Google DeepMind.

He will become chair instead. Hassabis will also become chief scientist of Alphabet, Google's parent company.

He will keep leading Isomorphic Labs too. Koray Kavukcuoglu is being promoted to senior vice president of Google DeepMind.

He was previously the company's chief technology officer. He will now report directly to Sundar Pichai, Google's CEO. Alphabet's shares fell about 4% to 5% after the announcement.

Klear Note Alphabet shares represent ownership in Google’s parent company. A 4% to 5% drop means the stock lost value that day.
