Hawaii's Big Island Prepares for Hurricane Nolo
People on Hawaii's Big Island are preparing for Hurricane Nolo. The storm is expected to pass south of the islands.
It should stay south through the weekend. Nolo could bring heavy rain and flooding.
It may also cause mudslides in some areas. Forecasters also warn of flash floods and extreme surf.
A weather system west of Hawaii is steering the storm. After Nolo moves away a ridge will build north of Hawaii.
This ridge should help turn the storm west. It remains unclear how far north Nolo will travel.
Klear Note — Hurricanes are powerful tropical storms that bring strong winds and heavy rain.
