Hotel Collapse in Philippines Kills 4

A nine-floor hotel under construction collapsed in Angeles City, Philippines. At least 4 people died and about 17 are missing.

Most missing are construction workers trapped under rubble. The building fell after a strong storm before dawn on May 24.

The collapse also partly hit a nearby budget hotel. A 65-year-old tourist from Malaysia was killed by falling debris.

Rescuers pulled three people from the rubble. Rescue work is hard because the structure is unstable.

Mayor Carmelo Lazatin II is leading rescue efforts on-site. He said teams will keep searching for survivors.

The project had been stopped before due to safety violations. Work started again last year.

Klear Note The Philippines sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire. Strong storms and earthquakes are common there. Building collapses during construction happen when safety rules aren't followed.
