House Buys Two Weeks on Spy Law
The House voted to extend a spy law until April 30. The law lets the US spy on foreigners abroad.
No warrant is needed. Previous votes on 5-year and 18-month extensions failed.
Some Republicans who want less government power led that effort. The Senate must also approve this short extension.
Klear Note — This law lets US spy agencies watch foreign people outside America without court permission. The Senate must vote next to approve the two-week delay.
Key Terms 2
- warrant
- official court permission needed before police can search or spy
- extension
- keeping a law going past its end date
