Houston Doctor Rules ICE Killing of Worker a Homicide
ICE agents shot and killed a man in Houston, Texas. His name was Lorenzo Salgado Araujo.
He was 52 years old and from Mexico. He had worked in construction for more than thirty years.
The Harris County Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide. The shooting happened early Tuesday July 7 2026.
It happened on Canal Street in Houston's East End area. ICE agents were trying to stop a van.
ICE said Salgado Araujo tried to ram agents with the van. He was then shot.
A lawyer for passengers in the van said that account was untrue. Three other men were in the van including his brother.
All three were detained. Homeland Security officials said Salgado Araujo was not the target of the operation.
The agents involved were not wearing body cameras. ICE has not released video or photos of the shooting.
Houston authorities are now investigating how the agent killed him. A Latino rights group called LULAC is offering a reward for witness video.
Texas lawmakers and county officials are asking for an independent investigation. Mexico's government says it will pursue legal action over the shooting.
