Houthis Claim They Shot Down Saudi Fighter Jet
Houthi rebels in Yemen released a video. They said it shows wreckage of a Saudi F-15 jet.
The Houthis claimed they shot down the jet over Yemen. They did not say when this happened.
BBC Verify checked the video's location in Yemen. The wreckage's tail number matched a Saudi F-15.
That jet belongs to Saudi Arabia's 55th Squadron. But the shootdown itself remains unconfirmed.
Checking the video's location does not prove the Houthis shot it down. If confirmed it would be their first fighter jet shootdown.
Fighting between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia is getting worse in Yemen. The Houthis are also expanding control around the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
The United Nations urged both sides to restart negotiations. This call came as the conflict intensified.
Old and reused videos have also spread on social media. Many were falsely presented as new footage from the front lines.
