Sonam Wangchuk supports young protesters in India. He ended his 26-day hunger strike on Friday.

The move followed talks with government leaders. Wangchuk said he feared possible violence.

This was his reason for ending the strike. The strike ended Thursday night at Medanta hospital.

Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh were there. Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a video speech before the announcement.

He promised a tougher law against exam paper leaks. He also promised faster court proceedings.

Student protests over leaked medical entrance exam papers have continued. Protesters want Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to resign.

They also want wider education reforms. The protests are linked to India's youth movement called the Cockroach Janta Party.

The leaks forced millions of students to retake exams. Clashes between police and protesters on July 20 injured students.

This added pressure on Wangchuk to end his fast. Activist Anna Hazare had also appealed to him. The student protests led to Wangchuk's hunger strike and the talks with ministers.
