Iran Accuses US of Striking Oil Tanker

Iran says the United States attacked an Iranian oil tanker. This happened near Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf.

Iranian state media said US missiles hit the ship Saturday morning. Reports said four missiles struck the tanker.

This happened about six miles from Kharg Island. Reports say the crew survived and unloading began.

The US military has not confirmed the reported attack. The reports came after a wave of US strikes.

Those strikes were retaliation for Iranian attacks. Iran had attacked ships and American forces.

Iran reportedly fired missiles toward the Strait of Hormuz one day earlier. Kharg Island holds Iran's main oil-export terminal. It has also been hit in earlier US strikes during the conflict.
