Nobel Winner Collapses in Iranian Prison
Narges Mohammadi is a Nobel Peace Prize winner jailed in Iran. She collapsed in prison and was taken to hospital on Friday.
She lost consciousness twice before being moved. Mohammadi is held in Zanjan Prison in northwestern Iran.
She had a heart attack in March. Her family says her health has gotten much worse.
She was placed in the cardiac care unit. Her blood pressure keeps changing at dangerous levels.
A doctor in Zanjan asked for her sentence to be paused for one month. That request was sent to prosecutors in Tehran. Amnesty International says Iranian leaders have denied her proper medical care on purpose.
Klear Note — Nobel Peace Prize winners are honored for work promoting peace. Iran's government has imprisoned many activists and journalists. Denying medical care to prisoners is a serious human rights concern.
