Iran Offers to Reopen Strait of Hormuz in Seven Days

Iran says it could reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This would happen within seven days.

The offer depends on the United States easing pressure on Iran. Traffic through the strait has dropped sharply.

The strait is a key route for energy supplies. The offer does not mean the strait has reopened.

It also does not mean the United States has accepted Iran's terms. CNBC reported that the offer raised hopes for new US-Iran talks.

Reports say Iran sent the proposal to Washington through a mediator. This aimed to restart stalled talks to end hostilities.

Reports also say Iran planned to discuss the offer with other countries. This would happen during the United Nations General Assembly week.

Iran had earlier set seven conditions for reopening the strait. These included ending war on all fronts.

Iran also wanted the United States to stop all pressure including sanctions. The Guardian said Iran seems to have eased those earlier conditions.

US stock futures were mixed today. Oil prices were lower, CNBC reported.
